What is the Church of Her Divine Spirit?
The Goddess is present in everything and nowhere is Her presence more intimately experienced than in Divine Spirituality.
The Church of D/s is dedicated to reviving the ancient tradition in which the temple's matriarch is recognized as the Goddess incarnate. It is a pluralist neo-pagan religion and recognizes that truths exist in many forms and as such, we do not require our members denounce their prior faith; indeed we promote the embracing of divine multiplicity, and recognize that other organized religions have value as cultural, communal, and historical (rather than simply spiritual) entities.
In modern society, many people hold faith with the religion of their fathers as an unacknowledged form of ancestor-worship.
Since it has been the political aim of many religions to strip their foremothers of historical significance, power (spiritual and secular) and authority, we reach into the morass of collective unconscious, ancient theology, and uncommon sense to resurrect the eternal Goddess.
You are not Alone
Many Paths, Many Lives, Many Loves
Many patriarchal churches make it their business to tell you all the ways not to be sexual. They condemn love and joy and responsible consensual sex. They tear apart families; ostrasize gay, lesbian and transgendered children; promote shame and deceit; condemning recreational sex and even masturbation! Some like the Catholic church forbid birth control and yet offer no support to overburdened families or unwanted children. Do much DO NOT and no healthy modeling of HOW TO. HOW TO love yourself and others, responsibly. HOW TO raise your children to do the same.
There are as many different ways of celebrating your own innate individual sexuality as there are individuals. We have designed the pathways through the sexual garden with some of these ways in mind.
*The Path of Thorns is the Sacred Magic (S/M)
*The Path of Roses is the path of egalitarian love, in which two or more partners of any gender offer themselves and their pleasure as a rite of the Divine.
*The Path of the Dark Moon is the solitary path of self-love, so often maligned or ignored.
*The Path of the Full Moon is any act of pleasure designed to emulate the Creatrix in bringing forth life and children to the earth.
Why a "Church"?
Being recognized by the IRS and government of the USA and other countries as a "legal" church allows many of the benefits already enjoyed by male-worshipping religions.
*In the USA, donations to the church and tributes paid to the Avatar of the living Goddess are tax deductable.
*There are many laws that protect the freedom of religion, the right to worship the way your soul (or often, the way your *church*) dictates. These freedoms/protections are doled out sparingly. Particularly to members of the armed forces or prisoners. An organized community (which is all a church or religion can hope to be) can offer comfort and assistance.
*One of the aims of our Worship is to build intentional communities/temples around the globe. It is one of our primary goals in organizing as a "legal" religion to be able to outreach to and bring those men, women and others who want to devote their lives to the service of a living Goddess -particularly those who live in areas or political climates where they are persecuted for their sexualities and beliefs- as initiates, priest/esses and clergy of Her Diviness.
